More than a year in the making, Monday marked the first day that Team USA45 Racing sailed their very own AC45. “Our objectives for the day were to really just work on us,” said bowman Peter Kinney on the day. The teams arrived at Pier 23 at 8:00 to a room full of press and cameras. The teams were then introduced by Red Bull Sporting Directors Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher, who officially kicked off the event.
The team hit the water shortly there after and spent a productive three hours sailing the boat to the south of the Bay Bridge. Although the breeze rarely piped above 10 knots, the team still found the morning very beneficial. “We haven’t been on the boat in about two months,” Kinney added, “but we’ve been reviewing our playbook daily so we were able to jump right in and get things moving.”
The team will continue to practice daily aboard the AC45 with less than three weeks until the start of the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.
