The race is on for Peter Kinney to recover from a hand injury and be ready to sail in the America´s Cup Youth America’s Cup competition, September 1st-4th, in San Francisco.
Kinney, a life long sailor from Newport Beach, resumed his sailing career with the USA45 Racing team after playing football through college.
He hurt the ring finger of his right hand today during training in San Francisco and was treated afloat and ashore. “Peter was doing something he’s done hundreds of times and he’s integral to handling the daggerboards in each tack and gybe,” explained USA45 Racing’s coach Charlie Ogletree, the four time Olympian (winning Silver in 2004) and AC45 skipper on the America’s Cup World Series tour.
“The doctors expect Peter to make a full recovery. Whether he can be ready in time to race, we don’t know yet, but Peter will be 100% part of our team in the competition,” Ogletree added.
